Karan Johar Early and personal life
Johar was born in Bombay, India to film producer Yash Johar, founder of Dharma Productions and Hiru Johar. His father is of Punjabi Hindu descent and his mother is of Sindhi Hindu descent. He attended Greenlance High School. After Greenlance, he studied at the HR College of Commerce and Economics in Bombay. Johar started his career in the entertainment industry as an actor. When he played the role of Srikanth in the 1989 Doordarshan serial Indradhanush.

Johar’s cousin Aditya Chopra entered the film industry as an assistant director in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which is considered a landmark in Hindi cinema. He then made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy-drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). The first half of the film centers on a college love triangle between an insensitive boy (Shahrukh Khan), his little friend (Kajal) and the most beautiful girl in college (Rani Mukherjee), while the second half now centers on the widow’s son trying to reconnect with his best friend.
